Four corporations (Tyson, Cargill, National Beef, & JBS) or mega packers, bottleneck the whole industry, seemingly most of the time in collusion with one another with the help of their lobby groups, one being the National Cattlemen's Beef Association(NCBA). Cattlemen in the USA have to pay $1 per head of sold cattle to the Beef Checkoff Program which is partially governed by no other than the NCBA. These corporations I mentioned earlier are members of the NCBA. These corporations have settled numerous times after being sued for market manipulation.
